ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Unique to homeschool enrichment organizations in our area, NovaScoop is a nonprofit collective and true educational cooperative.

We serve homeschooling families with students 8 years (3rd grade) and older. We offer a variety of c lasses for several grade cohorts- upper elementary (3rd-5th), middle school (6th-8th), and high school (9th-12th). We also offer lower elementary (Kindergarten-2nd) classes to accommodate families with younger siblings, aged 5-7 years.

We meet on Fridays over the course of two separate sessions per school year. Classes begin at 10:00 and end at 3:30. We have four class periods and one lunch period. Students are not required to sign up for every class period. All students who wish to enroll in classes must first register as NovaScoop members.

Membership fees are due each session for each registered family. These fees cover rental fees and administrative costs associated with the running of our cooperative. Membership fees vary according to the number of registered students (per family) and the number of class registrations (per student).

Every member family contributes to our learning community by providing assistance in the daily running of NovaScoop- there are several different options for completing this ‘Scoop Service’.

NovaScoop is not a drop-off program for elementary aged students. As a cooperative, we do not employ staff to supervise students. Volunteer administrators are always present to ensure each Friday runs smoothly, but are focused on daily operational tasks. Students 12 years (and 6th grade) or older may be dropped off to attend classes (at the parent’s discretion) if the student is able to function well without direct adult supervision. Students up to 12 years (and 5th grade) must be accompanied by a supervising adult while attending classes. More detailed information on our drop-off policy can be found in our Member Handbook.
